CHIANTI SUPERIORE SANTA CRISTINA 75cl
Appellation Chianti Superiore
Grape 95% Sangiovese
Producer The Antinori family released their first wine under the Santa Cristina name in 1946. Since then Santa Cristina has been a byword for quality and value in Tuscany – now more so than ever since the creation of a dedicated winery in 2006. The range now consists of reds and rosés from Tuscany and whites from Umbria, so the winery’s location in Cortona, southern Tuscany, is ideal.
Vineyard Chianti Superiore is a relatively new DOCG that allows a high-quality wine to be sourced from several regions within the Chianti zone. The Santa Cristina is a blend of various parcels, each picked at different times according to optimum ripeness, with the Sangiovese coming in later than the Merlot, during the first two weeks of October.
Winery The different lots were fermented separately after destemming, for 10-12 days at 30ºC for the Sangiovese and 7-8 days at 25ºC for the Merlot. The wine was then aged in a mixture of wood and stainless steel for nine months.
Taste A classic Chianti, offering aromas of red berry fruit, with vanilla and floral hints of violets. Flavoursome, medium-bodied palate, fresh in structure and with a delicious balance of fruit and savoury notes. Typical spicy sensations from the oak on the back palate.
